Lord of Shadows Review

By Kendra Sue - May 12, 2020

I'm not gonna lie, I was super excited to pick this up after reading Lady Midnight, and that book took me over a year to read. So I'm glad I already had this on hand to read straight after Lady Midnight.

I might be kind of harsh in this review just because, needless to say, through much of the book, I was so entirely bored I wanted to put it down and stop the series.

In my opinion, the love triangles were out of control. Julian and Emma, Emma and Mark, Mark and Christina, Christina and Diego, and Kieran and Mark, like when does it end? This was the biggest thing for me that really struck me of how much I didn't really enjoy this book as it got really, really repetitive and almost boring.

Another thing I disliked about it was how little we got to know Annabel. I would have loved to hear more about her and how and why she killed Malcom. Maybe they explained it and I wasn't paying attention since I listened to the audiobook, but I would have loved to see more of her perspective on the whole thing regarding the Black Volume.

What really made up for the entirety of the book was the ending. I did NOT see that coming at all and it broke me to pieces. Why did Cassie Clare have to do Livvy so dirty like that? :(

I give this book a 4/5 stars, even though I'm being generous based on what I've said previously. I'm leaning more towards 3.5/5 stars but I'll be generous and give it 4 just because of the ending and how it left us on a cliffhanger.

I already have the third book Queen of Air and Darkness and I've already started reading it, thankfully! I just hope this one makes up for Lord of Shadows.
